Prof. David Mifsud is a Full Professor at the Institute of Earth Systems within the Rural Sciences and Food Systems Division at the University of Malta. He earned his PhD in Zoology from the University of Basel, Switzerland, and has an extensive academic and research background in entomology and apiculture. His work focuses on the biology and ecology of insects, pollination systems, and sustainable beekeeping practices, with particular emphasis on the interaction between apiculture, agroecosystems, and environmental sustainability. As the National Project Manager for Malta in the BEE-OPTECH4Honey project, Prof. Mifsud leads and coordinates research activities aimed at improving honey quality, enhancing the characterization of monofloral honeys, and supporting evidence-based decision-making in beekeeping. He plays a key role in integrating field knowledge with data-driven methodologies, contributing to the development of innovative, sustainable, and regionally adapted solutions for the apiculture sector.
